Martin Dubravka targeting permanent Newcastle deal

Newcastle United loanee Martin Dubravka was sensational on his Magpies debut.

In comments reported by the Shields Gazette, Martin Dubravka has suggested that he would like to earn a permanent move to Newcastle after initially joining the Magpies on loan.

After much speculation surrounding whether the Premier League side would be able to get a deal across the line, the 29-year-old arrived at St James’ Park during the latter stages of the month, and made himself something of a hero on his debut for Rafa Benitez’s side.

The Slovakian made a string of fine saves as Newcastle bagged a vital win – that lifted them out of the relegation zone having fallen in earlier in the day – over Manchester United.

The Daily Mirror recently reported that the Magpies are already keen to make the stopper’s move permanent and a clause has already been agreed, meaning that Newcastle only have to pay £4 million to convert his loan deal. And Dubravka has now suggested that he is on the same wavelength as his current club.

“I appreciate the opportunity, and I will try to do my best to stay. Hopefully, it will not just be a loan,” he said, as reported by the Shields Gazette.

“I really hope I get to stay longer than six months. It’s a huge opportunity for my life.”

If Dubravka continues to churn out performances like the one against Jose Mourinho’s side, then it is undoubtedly a no-brainer for Benitez to give a permanent move the green light.

But with the Sparta-Prague owned ace clearly determined to make Newcastle’s mind up for them, perhaps the Magpies should hold off triggering the clause and keep the goalkeeper on his toes for the time-being as it appears that he may prove to be an inspired addition during the coming months, especially if he has a point to prove.
