Newcastle United have the option to sign Martin Dubravka on a permanent basis this summer after an inspired loan spell.

Dubravka joined the Magpies on loan in January and proved to be an inspired addition for the club, quickly establishing himself as the side’s number one and subsequently playing a key role in ensuring that Newcastle stayed up and finished in the top-half of the table in their first season back in the Premier League.

The Sun reports that Newcastle could make his move permanent for £4 million this summer. And while Dubravka is determined to stay, he hinted that Benitez’s future could have an impact on his own situation.

“All potential transfers will begin after this at the club. This week will show whether Rafa Benitez will remain.
Dubravka’s comments undoubtedly help highlight just how integral Benitez appears to be to Newcastle’s fortunes right now, and how big a blow it would be for the Magpies to lose him in the future.
It certainly appears that the players are delighted to be playing for him, and having him in the dugout must make a move to St James’ Park even more tempting for potential targets.
Keeping Benitez beyond this summer appears to be the most important piece of business that Mike Ashley could sort during the coming months – especially as his future will surely have a major impact on what the squad will look like next season.
