Martial enjoyed an impressive first half of the campaign and began 2018 with three goals in three games, before the January arrival of Alexis Sanchez saw him pushed to the fringes of the squad.
The former Monaco star has started just five Premier League matches since the arrival of the Chile international and was again left out of the starting XI for Saturday’s FA Cup final defeat to Chelsea.
Martial, ommitted from the France squad for this summer’s World Cup in Russia, has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford with the Evening Standard reporting Tottenham are among the clubs interested in his services.
And with his relationship with Mourinho seemingly strained, former midfielder Scholes has suggested a new approach is needed to bring the best out of the Frenchman.
“Martial’s a really good talent,” Scholes told BT Sport, the Mirror report.
“I think he needs a bit of love, he needs an arm around him.”
With reports linking Martial with Tottenham refusing to go away, an opportunity for the Frenchman to work under Pochettino could prove a beneficial move for the forward. Pochettino has received widespread adulation for his work with younger players since arriving on these shores, with Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen all flourishing under his guidance, with recent arrival Davinson Sanchez already a first-team player at the age of 21.
Martial, who has 11 goals in all competitions this season, could prove to be the next young talent to benefit from the Argentine’s superb attacking coaching and widely-praised man-management – if Spurs can tempt United into doing business.
