Newcastle United have been heavily linked with Morgan Sanson in the past but are they planning a move again?

With the January transfer window just five weeks away and the takeover of Newcastle United seemingly edging closer, it’s exciting times at St James’ Park.
And it appears that The Magpies are already planning moves for players to ring in a potential new era on Tyneside. La Provence (22nd November, page 25) reports that Newcastle sent scouts to watch Marseille draw 1-1 with Bordeaux at the weekend.
It is unknown which player, or players, Newcastle were they to see but there is no shortage of talent on both sides. In rapid Brazilian winger Malcom, Bordeaux have one of the most exciting young talents in European football.
But it’s the scorer of Marseille’s last-gasp equaliser who could find himself linked once again with a move to St James’. The Magpies were interested back in 2015 in Montpellier’s highly-rated midfield ace Morgan Sanson – and it was not the first time the dynamic Frenchman had been linked with a move to the North East of England.

And Sanson will no doubt have caught Newcastle’s eye again in Bordeaux. His last-gasp finish means he has now scored in three successive games for Marseille – taking his tally to a hugely impressive five in eight Ligue 1 starts since he moved to the club from Montpellier in January.
Though there’s more to Sanson’s game than goals. A tenacious and intelligent playmaker, he assisted 14 altogether in France’s top flight last season.

And considering that Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle are a little light on creativity and goals from the centre of the park, another influential Sanson display should put this blast from the past back in The Magpies’ sights.
