Marseille chief Pablo Longoria has confirmed that the club did not receive an official proposal for Matteo Guendouzi, who was targeted by Aston Villa as a potential incoming in the January transfer window.

In fact, Fabrizio Romano told the House of Champions podcast that the Villains still aim to bring the Frenchman in during the summer, as Unai Emery is ‘in love’ with his playing style, who is valued at £44 million, as per 90 Min.

However, it seems Aston Villa are yet to make a proposal to sign Matteo Guendouzi, as per Marseille chief Pablo Longoria.

Ultimately, the Villa Park faithful may be disappointed upon discovering this piece of information, as the energetic midfielder, once labelled as ‘fantastic’ by Gary Neville (via the Mirror) could have transformed the side in the middle of the park.

However, Marseille chief Pablo Longoria told La Provence that the club never received an official proposal from any club, which seemingly includes Aston Villa.

“We have discussed with Atletico Madrid for Jonathan Clauss without going any further. For Guendouzi, we haven’t received a concrete proposal”, he said.

Aston Villa must make Emery’s dream signing a reality in the summer

Well, ultimately, the club’s dedicated fanbase will hope that their current options in midfield do the trick until the end of the season.

However, another window where the Marseille chief reveals that Aston Villa did not make a concrete proposal for Matteo Guendouzi should not be the case.

The youngster would be one of the few players who is fully tactically familiar with Unai Emery’s system, having worked alongside him at Arsenal.

The pair could make wonders happen once reunited by Villa in the summer of 2023, as they would be eyeing a potential top-half finish.
