Marseille boss responds to claims his side are keen to sign Arsenal’s Matteo Geundouzi

Marseille manager Andre Villas-Boas has rubbished reports suggesting his side want to sign Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi ahead of the deadline, GFNF report.

The Gunners midfielder has fallen out of favour at the Emirates Stadium.

Guendouzi hasn’t featured in the Premier League since Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat at Brighton and Hove Albion last term, with his attitude placed into question.

Footmercato reported this week how Marseille have approached Arsenal about a move for the Guendouzi, while the Frenchman is said to want a change of scenery.

But Marseille boss Andre Villas-Boas has since denied those claims plus others linking the club with a move for Fulham midfielder Jean-Michel Seri.

“Not at all. Guendouzi neither, it is not true at all. We are not looking for anything unless we get offers for our players. We don’t have any offers for our players, sorry,” Villas-Boas explained.

Guendouzi joined Arsenal in the summer of 2018 and made 57 Premier League appearances in the past two seasons, scoring just once in the Europa League.

But the 21-year-old has now been heavily linked with an Arsenal exit.

A report last month by ESPN claimed the Gunners were actively trying to sell him, but their £35 million price-tag put off suitors including Paris Saint-Germain.

Arsenal still harbour hopes of signing top midfield target Houssem Aouar. But Mikel Arteta’s side may still be hoping to move one or two on first.

The midfield area has long been a problem area for Arsenal and Aouar has the talent to become a long-term star there should a deal get done before the deadline.
