Speaking on ESPN, Jan Age Fjortoft has warned Jesse Marsch about signing any more American players for Leeds United.
The Whites have already signed Tyler Adams and Brendan Aaronson this summer, while the Yorkshire club’s scouting team have apparently been over to the States to watch another player this summer.
Adams and Aaronson are two exciting additions, but according to Fjortoft, if the Whites’ new signings don’t hit the ground running, the board at Elland Road could use these American signings as an excuse to sack their manager.

Fjortoft warned Marsch about signing American players.
“I think Jesse Marsch should watch out, if he gets too many Americans to Leeds that will give the owners a reason to fire him too early. If he’s troubled the owners will look for something and they will say he brought in too many Americans just like with Solskjaer at Cardiff who signed any Norwegians available, not a good sign,” Fjortoft said.
Unfair
This is quite an unfair point of view from Fjortoft.
Yes, Marsch is clearly having an impact on Leeds’ recruitment policy. After all, they’ve made a number of American signings and a number of signings from Red Bull-affiliated clubs.
However, as every Leeds fan will know, Marsch isn’t the one signing off on these new additions.
Victor Orta is Leeds’ Director of Football, and if these new additions don’t work out, the blame will fall at his feet rather than Marsch’s.
Of course, that isn’t to say that Marsch’s job is incredibly secure, but if he is to be sacked early in the season, it won’t be because he’s signed too many Americans, it’ll be because the team aren’t performing.
