Jesse Marsch has shared that he told Leeds United players in training, that their adaptation to tactics has been quicker than he has found after six months at other clubs. Marsch held his first press conference on Thursday.
Marsch, 48, came across incredibly well in his first media duties on Thursday afternoon – ahead of Saturday’s lunchtime clash away at Leicester City. Leeds come into the match after just one point from a possible 18.
The American gaffer has been at the club since Monday evening, holding a few training sessions since then. Media were allowed to watch on Thursday morning – with a clip posted on Twitter by Graham Smyth this morning.
Leeds boss Marsch was asked about the quality of his newly-inherited squad – and said he has told the Leeds players that their adaptation to tactics in training has been quicker than some clubs after six months.
“I told them yesterday after training that some of the things I worked on with them, other teams did not perform the topics as well after six months. That is a very positive sign,” Marsch said, which will delight Leeds fans.
Marsch on Leeds squad: Comments will excite fans in relegation battle
When Marsch was appointed, one of the concerns was whether the ex-Leipzig manager would be able to get the Leeds side playing in his way quickly. Leeds have 12 games to save themselves from the drop.
But Marsch’s comments will be a big boost in relieving those fears. Of course, results are the main thing, but adapting to his tactics and demands is important and it seems the Leeds players are doing just that, already.
