Jesse Marsch has applauded Everton in Friday’s press conference – as per Leeds United’s YouTube channel – for their belief in the fight against the drop. Everton confirmed their place in the Premier League on Thursday.

Trailing Crystal Palace 2-0 at half-time, Frank Lampard galvanised his men and the Toffees came back to win 3-2. Michael Keane, Richarlison and Dom Calvert-Lewin scored goals to claw the Toffees to Premier League safety.

While it is Everton’s gain, it is Leeds’ pain. The Whites slip into the drop zone after Burnley picked up an away point over a stuttering Aston Villa side. The point means Leeds need to better Burnley’s result at Brentford.

Burnley, meanwhile, play host to Newcastle. Speaking in his press conference, Marsch congratulated Everton before answering any questions from reporters present. He applauded the Toffees for their belief.

“I want to congratulate Everton. For a hard-fought last couple of months for them. What a game to come back and win, to show that fight and belief. Congratulations,” Marsch said, as quoted by the club’s YouTube channel.

Leeds boss Marsch congratulates Everton: Can Whites join them?

If the odds were not stacked against them before Thursday night’s fixtures, they certainly are now. Leeds, realistically, might have to beat Brentford in order to stay up – a side that have used their home ground as a fortress.

That will not be easy. Leeds might have Patrick Bamford back but realistically, that will only be for 30 minutes maximum off the bench. Can Leeds join Everton? Burnley are much more likely to do so.
