A suddenly deflated Tottenham Hotspur side need a big signing.

Mauricio Pochettino, manager of Spurs looks on prior to the Pre-Season Friendly match beween Tottenham Hotspur and Juventus at Wembley Stadium on August 5, 2017 in London, England.

The week after a FA Cup semi-final defeat was never going to be a comfortable one for Tottenham Hotspur.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino has been linked with an exit, which would provide the catalyst for key players to move on too.

Doubts already persist over the futures of Toby Alderweireld and Danny Rose who will need replacing before Spurs even think about strengthening.

A lack of trophies, managerial uncertainty, wage caps, and key player departures are a very unhealthy mix for a club who are struggling to take the next step.

Tottenham would have hoped that moving into their new stadium later would be up against a more harmonious backdrop.

A unifying factor would be a marquee signing.

That could be a Gareth Bale return, it could be in demand Brazilian winger Malcom, Ajax defender Mattijs De Ligt, even Wilfried Zaha may qualify, or another mystery name chairman Daniel Levy has up his sleeve.

Daniel Levy, Chairman of Tottenham Hotspur looks on during the Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool at White Hart Lane on August 27, 2016 in London, England.

A big name player arriving would demonstrate to fans that Tottenham have serious intent to improve, and not just stand still.

Supporters who are set to pay the most expensive tickets in Britain for the new stadium deserve this from the club.

Not only that, but a marquee addition would help keep manager Mauricio Pochettino happy, and demonstrate to Tottenham’s players that they are pulling in the same direction.

Tottenham have the core of a trophy winning side even if they haven’t quite made the jump. The key men need to be persuaded that staying put is the right move… and a game changing new signing would go a long way.
