The midfielder is back from a lengthy injury layoff.
Despite the defeat to Liverpool yesterday, it has been a hugely positive season for Burnley so far, with Sean Dyche’s side currently in seventh place in the Premier League.
Although the transfer window is now open, there doesn’t appear much need for Burnley to strengthen their squad, and, what’s more, they have a player returning from a lengthy injury layoff who is set to boost their resources even further.
Dean Marney hasn’t played a competitive game for almost a year since suffering cruciate ligament damage against Arsenal, but the experienced midfielder has made a full recovery and was back on the bench for the games against Manchester United and Huddersfield Town recently.
Marney faces a difficult task in attempting to re-establish himself in the Burnley starting lineup given that Dyche’s side have been performing so effectively, but the 33-year-old still has much to offer for the Clarets.
Impressive at breaking up play and distributing the ball to his team-mates, Marney is a useful squad option and having him available will boost Burnley’s chances of continuing to impress in the second half of the campaign as he is capable of providing cover for Jack Cork or Steven Defour.
