During his brief time in the Premier League and with Chelsea, things didn’t go too well for Marko Marin, as he will now come up against Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League.
Chelsea flop Marko Marin has warned Tottenham Hotspur that they must take Red Star Belgrade ‘seriously’ ahead of their Champions League tie on Tuesday night.
The former Premier League player also stated that Spurs striker Harry Kane is ‘one of the best’ in the world as he is looking forward to taking on the North London club.
A lot was expected of Marin when he was a youngster, but he simply couldn’t live up to his billing, as his move to Stamford Bridge in 2012 proved.
Now, the forward is plying his trade for Red Star, who will be hoping to pile more misery on out-of-form Spurs, as Marin shared his thoughts on the match.
“To play against last season’s Champions League finalists – to play against the biggest teams in Europe – is a huge thing for everyone at Red Star,” Marin told The Daily Star. “
“And our win last season at home to Liverpool in the Champions League means that every team must now take us seriously. “I’m sure they will bounce back to their best soon because they have too much quality. “They have also had time to regain some confidence with their national teams.
“Kane, for example, is one of the best strikers in the world. He’s showed it over many years for both club and country.”
This could be the game where Mauricio Pochettino’s side get back to winning ways and start to build some much-needed momentum because their poor form doesn’t seem to be coming to an end.
There will perhaps be more added pressure on Spurs on Tuesday because of their Saturday performance against Watford and their previous Champions League display, which saw them concede seven at home.
More drop points here will only make Spurs’ chances of qualifying for the knockout stages even tougher. And whilst they did it last season, they will only start making life hard for themselves.
