West Ham United showed small signs of progress under David Moyes as they drew 1-1 with Leicester City at the London Stadium on Friday night.

The Hammers conceded a very soft eighth-minute opener to Marc Albrighton but showed character to fight back through Cheikhou Kouyate’s equaliser.

The second half in particular was a much improved display from Sunday’s 2-0 defeat to Watford and the Irons were pushing for a winner come the end.

One performance in particular was encouraging for West Ham as summer signing Marko Arnautovic responded to recent criticism from his new manager.

Moyes told BBC Sport that the Austrian winger needed to be a team player, and it was clear that he had upped his work rate in both attack and defence.

There was one occasion in the first where a backtracking Arnautovic made up 10 yards on Jamie Vardy to make a vital intervention in his own penalty box.

The former Stoke City star also showed glimpses of his quality on the ball by delivering several excellent crosses towards Andy Carrol in the first half.

Arnautovic still needs to do much more to justify his hefty £25m price tag – fee report by BBC Sport – but this was his best outing in a West Ham shirt so far.
