Speaking on the Seaman Says Podcast, former Reds defender Mark Wright has been discussing Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott.

The midfielder, unfortunately, suffered an injury against Leeds United at the weekend, but it shouldn’t be forgotten just how well he had been playing in the opening weeks of the season.

Wright had been blown away by Elliott in his first few appearances, claiming that he was surprised by the maturity and strength he’s shown.

What’s been said?

Wright waxed-lyrical about Elliott and wished him well in his recovery.

“We all hope that he’s going to do really really well and that he recovers. He surprised us all with the maturity and the strength he’s shown, you thought is he going to be there or thereabouts? He’s fit right in and from the reports from the lads within, they all say he’s going to be a major talent. The one thing is that he’s not very pacy, but he is very clever.”

Future star

If Elliott returns from injury and isn’t hampered by this ankle problem then he could be an absolute star of the future.

Let’s not forget, this is an 18-year-old and he was keeping players like Naby Keita and Jordan Henderson out of the Liverpool starting XI.

Unfortunately, his development is going to be hampered as he faces six months on the sidelines, but if he can come back and pick up where he left off, there’s no reason why he can’t reach the very top.

We could be looking at a future star for England as well as for Liverpool.
