Mark Wotte has told the Glasgow Evening Times that he would be interested in becoming the new Director of Football at Rangers.

The Gers are not only looking for a new manager following Mark Warburton’s departure, but are also planning major changes behind the scenes as former recruitment chief Frank McParland followed Warburton out of Ibrox.

Rangers Managing Director Stewart Robertson told the club’s official website last week that Rangers are now looking to alter their model, with a Director of Football now wanted at Ibrox.

Already a host of names have been linked; The Scottish Sun reported earlier this week that talks have been held with Southampton’s Director of Scouting Ross Wilson, whilst Tottenham’s Paul Mitchell is also believed to be a target.

Rangers may well want to bring in a Director of Football before appointing a new manager, and one man has thrown his hat into the ring for the job.

Mark Wotte, formerly the Scottish FA’s Performance Director, was linked with a move to Rangers in 2014, as The Scottish Sun reported three years ago that Wotte was in line for a role at Ibrox.

The Dutchman, currently serving as Performance Director for the Moroccan FA, has spoken to the Glasgow Evening Times about the situation at Ibrox, admitting that he would love to take on the ‘ultimate challenge’ at Ibrox.

Wotte added that he would be delighted to get the job, but thinks that Rangers may have forgotten about him having been in Morocco for the last two years.

“To get Rangers back to European level, that is one of the ultimate challenges in football, so I wouldn’t walk away from that challenge,” said Wotte. “There is a lot of potential there, a lot of history and they play now in the Scottish Premiership but they have to make one, two or three steps to get back into Europe.”

“I would be delighted to get my hands on a job like that but I know there are a lot of names going on and former Rangers people involved. So I am not sure they are waiting for a Mark Wotte. Maybe they have forgotten about me because I have been away now for two years,” he added.
