Mark Wilson has told The Scottish Sun that Celtic must do everything they can to keep the ‘incredible’ Scott Sinclair beyond this season.

According to The Scottish Sun, Sinclair could leave Parkhead on a free transfer this summer.

The report added that the Hoops can activate a one-year extension, but the 29-year-old is waiting to see if chief executive Peter Lawwell pulls the trigger in that regard.

The English winger, signed by Brendan Rodgers who quit the club last week, has netted 17 times across all competitions this season, having won the Player of the Year award during his debut season in Glasgow in 2017.

And Wilson, who spent six years with the Bhoys until 2012, is desperate to see his old club retain his services, and defended the type of goals that he scores.

He told The Scottish Sun: “Scott Sinclair has been a massive victim of his own success in the first year. I would keep Sinclair if it was me. I’ve always been a massive supporter of him.

“Sinclair has 17 goals this season — that’s an incredible return for a wide man. Yet, a wide man people say has been poor this season. I see Celtic fans saying he only scores tap-ins on a plate.

“They are forgetting the 20 yard runs past defenders that are so difficult to pick up. That’s football intelligence.”

Rodgers spent £3.5 million [The Record] on bringing the former Aston Villa man to Scotland in 2016.

Even if he does wind up leaving, Sinclair, who has won seven trophies and could make it nine come May, has been one hell of a bargain for the Scottish giants.
