Mark Wilson comments on Rangers defender Lee Wallace

Ibrox club Glasgow Rangers defender Lee Wallace is struggling to play for Steven Gerrard’s side at the moment.

Former Celtic right-back Mark Wilson has said that Rangers left-back Lee Wallace is better than his Ibrox teammates Jon Flanagan and Andy Halliday, as quoted in The Scottish Sun.

Wallace has not been playing for Rangers in recent weeks and is out of the Gers’ team at the moment.

Following Borna Barisic’s injury in September, Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has opted for Jon Flanagan and midfielder Andy Halliday at left-back.

Former Celtic right-back Wilson, 34, believes that 31-year-old left-back Wallace – who has been on the books of Rangers since the summer of 2011 when he joined from Heart of Midlothian for a transfer fee reported by The Scotsman to be worth £1.5 million – is a better player than Flanagan and Halliday.

The Scottish Sun quotes Wilson as saying: “Steven Gerrard said at the AGM he’s got better options than Lee Wallace. Barisic is injured. But he’s got so many games coming up.

“Lee Wallace is without doubt better than Jon Flanagan and Andy Halliday at left-back. He says he’s seeing them in training.

“We’ve seen Lee Wallace for years in Scotland and he’s far superior to those guys at left-back.”

Rangers exit likely?

Wallace has made just one appearance in the Scottish Premiership for Rangers so far this season, and it is unlikely that the Scotland international is going to get much playing time in the coming weeks and months.

According to Transfermarkt.com, Wallace is out of contract at Rangers at the end of the season, and it does not seem that the left-back will be offered a new contract by the Gers.
