Mark Warburton has explained to Rangers TV (via Rangers’ official website) that Rangers will turn things around and make their critics eat their words.

The Light Blues are coming to terms with the humbling defeat they suffered in the first Old Firm meeting of the season. And Warburton explained that the reaction to the 5-1 loss has given the squad all the motivation they should need to turn things around at Ibrox.

“I’ve read some of the comments. I told the players that I was warned not to read the papers, but I thought no, I will read the papers, and you see some of the poisonous, mischievous dialogue that is written, and that just burns in your memory and that is something we will use,” he told Rangers TV (via club’s official website).

“We need to turn it round and we will turn it around quickly, and while I won’t use the exact words I used with the players, we will make sure the people who are writing what they are writing right now come to eat those words.”

Although the Gers went into Saturday’s game second in the table, it is fair to say that they are yet to look like the side that stormed to the Scottish Championship title last season.

And while the level of competition has obviously gone up in comparison with last term, they have recruited some high quality players over the summer, so should, on paper, be able to deal with the better opposition.

However, it must also be pointed out that Rangers went into this campaign having made 11 additions to their first-team squad, so they were always going to need time to gel as a side before it clicked like it did last term.

But with the side still as high as third in the table, it is clear that their situation is not desperate, and once the team begin to look much more cohesive, they may just be able to put their difficult start behind them.
