Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers are currently sat in fifth in the Scottish Premiership table.
Glasgow Rangers boss Mark Warburton has told the Ibrox’s side’s official website that supporters of his side should remember Erik Lamela’s rise at Tottenham Hotspur when criticising his summer signings.
Rangers added a number of players to their squad during the previous transfer window, as Warburton looked to add quality to his team for their first season back in the Scottish Premiership.
Most of Rangers’ summer additions have not had the desired impact so far, with many struggling to make an impact at Ibrox.
However, Warburton insists that anybody writing Rangers’ new boys off has acted too swiftly, as they were always going to take time to settle in.
“I remember [Erik] Lamela coming to Spurs and people saying it took him 12 months to settle in and now he’s producing a fantastic level of football,” Warburton said.
“But 12 months to settle in…the expectation here at Rangers is such that players are expected to deliver immediately, and it takes time.
“It’s a different culture, different demands, different responsibilities at the club. The weight of expectation, dealing with so many different things and we laugh and joke about the weather, but it is players dealing with different circumstances.”
Lamela really struggled during his first season in English football, but he now plays a key role as one of Mauricio Pochettino’s side’s main attackers.
Spurs rely on Lamela to add creativity going forward, and he has also offered a lot defensively to the North London side.
Rangers will be hoping that their new recruits can turn around their form in a similar manner, as they have been disappointing so far this season.
The Ibrox side are currently in fifth place in the Scottish Premiership table, after winning just three of their first eight matches.
