Former Ibrox manager Mark Warburton has explained to The Daily Mail how he tried to keep Billy Gilmour from leaving Rangers for Chelsea.
Gilmour came through the Rangers youth system, but the midfielder left the Gers for Chelsea in 2017.
According to talkSPORT, Premier League outfit Chelsea paid Rangers £500,000 for the Scotland Under-21 International.
Queens Park Rangers manager Warburton was in charge of the Gers from the summer of 2015 until February 2017, and he has outlined how he tried to stop the 19-year-old from leaving the Ibrox club.
Warburton told The Daily Mail: “David Weir and I went to his house to try and keep him for Rangers We spent time with his mum and dad, but when the big boys come calling, it’s tough. His talent was unquestioned.”
The QPR boss added: “What a talent. I think Scotland have a future world-class midfield player, I really do.
“I think he is going to keep on improving because he is in a great environment with Frank and Jody (Morris, assistant manager) and the players at Chelsea.
“I very much hope he can continue that progress because, if so, Scotland truly will have a world-class midfield player there.”

Progressing at Chelsea
Gilmour is one of the best young players around, and the teenager is progressing well at Chelsea.
The 19-year-old has played 99 minutes in the Premier League, and has played twice each in the EFL Cup and the FA Cup each for the Blues so far this season, according to WhoScored.
The Scottish youngster is doing well at the Blues, and the teenager could develop into a key figure under Frank Lampard in the coming years.
