Rangers boss Mark Warburton has told Rangers TV (via club’s official website) that he expects Joe Dodoo to be out for up to five weeks but added that he was hopeful that he could be back sooner.

The 21-year-old was stretchered off just 15 minutes into the Light Blues’ game with Kilmarnock last month. And Warburton confirmed that the forward will miss the first Old Firm game of the season as he faces several weeks on the sidelines.

“He is facing four or five weeks on the sidelines,” he told Rangers TV (via club’s official website).

“He is a quick healer by the looks of things though, and fingers-crossed he will come back sooner than expected.”

While Warburton would have surely wanted to have had Dodoo in his ranks for the game at Parkhead due to his pace and ability to find the back of the net – the former Leicester City man has scored in two of the Gers’ Scottish League Cup games this term – they appear to have more than enough cover for the clash with the Hoops.

Last season’s top goalscorer Martyn Waghorn featured in their 7-0 friendly win over Linfield over the weekend, while Kenny Miller – who scored in last season’s Scottish Cup semi-final against their bitter rivals – showed that he knows how to find the back of the net as he scored four in Ireland.

But with Dodoo capable of producing moments of magic, Warburton may feel that not having him available damages Rangers’ hopes slightly as Saturday’s game has the potential to be a cagey contest that is decided by one piece of brilliance.
