Scottish club Hearts have given up hope of keeping hold of star winger Sam Nicholson. The Edinburgh Evening News reported that the 22-year-old rejected a new deal before Christmas and has decided to move on – with a £400,000 compensation fee set to be paid to Hearts by whoever snaps him up.

So why might this interest Nottingham Forest?

Current Forest boss Mark Warburton is a firm admirer of the Hearts winger. In December last year it was reported by the Daily Record that the Jambos star was firmly in the mind of Warburton, who at the time was Rangers manager.

The EEN report claims that Rangers are again interested in the player, so Warburton would also be able to get one over on his former employers by signing the player.

Then there is the fact he is a very talented left-wing option who could add another dimension to the Nottingham Forest team after a tough season in the Championship.

At £400k Warburton could bag a star man and a small slice of revenge on his former club. That sounds like a good bargain.
