David Weir represented Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers as a player for five years between 2007 and 2012.
Glasgow Rangers boss Mark Warburton has told his side’s official website that he was warned by his assistant manager David Weir about the expectation levels at Ibrox before he took the job.
Warburton became Rangers boss in 2015, and he has enjoyed a strong record since taking charge.
The former Brentford manager guided Rangers to promotion in his first season at the helm in impressive fashion.
However, Rangers have rather disappointed this term – and currently only sit in fifth place in the Scottish Premiership table.
The Glasgow side have won just three of their first eight games back in Scotland’s top flight, and Warburton has had some criticism directed at him.
Warburton insists that this level of scrutiny no longer comes as a surprise to him, but he admits that some of Rangers’ new players are still adapting to the pressure.
“David Weir always said to me that you can get booed off at half time when it is nil-nil [at Rangers],” Warburton said.
“It happened to us and you could see the players’ faces, but they have great experience and role models in the dressing room with the likes of Lee Wallace as skipper, Kenny Miller of course.
“They’ve been here and done it, they understand what the fans expect, what the crowd expects, and what we have to do.”
Rangers were expected to challenge Celtic for the title this term, but they are already playing catch up with their capital rivals now.
Rangers are next in action after the international break when they take on Inverness.
