Nottingham Forest manager Mark Warburton has taken to Twitter to offer his views on Chris Cohen’s new contract with the club.

Warburton was appointed as Forest manager in March, and managed to successfully guide the club away from relegation trouble after poor results under Philippe Montanier and Gary Brazil.

With the Championship season over, it’s a time for tough decisions for clubs throughout the division, and Forest faced a decision over the future of Chris Cohen.

The 30-year-old midfielder is Forest’s longest-serving player having joined the club from Yeovil Town back in 2007, with the Cohen bringing up ten years at the City Ground this summer.

Cohen has endured a number of big injuries during his time with Forest, but he has made 300 appearances for the club and has captained Forest since 2013.

Cohen bagged a deflected strike in Sunday’s vital 3-0 win over Ipswich Town, and with his contract set to expire this summer, Forest have handed Cohen a new one-year deal.

After news broke earlier today, manager Warburton took to Twitter to share his delight, stating that he thoroughly deserved his new deal and has a major role to play with Forest next season.

Fans took to Twitter to respond to Warburton, with many fans using the hashtag #SignDavidVaughan, with supporters desperate to see Welsh midfielder Vaughan follow suit and sign a new contract, given that his deal also expires this summer.
