Mark Warburton praises fans of Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers.
Speaking to Rangers TV, manager Mark Warburton has described the Gers fans as “first class” and hopes that his troops can justify the faith shown in them from the fanbase.
Rangers host Annan Athletic tonight in their first home game of the 2016-17 campaign as Warburton’s troops look to make it two League Cup wins from two, after beating Motherwell 2-0 in their season’s curtain-raiser at Fir Park on Saturday.
Not quite friendlies, but League Cup outings are certainly a preamble to Scottish Premiership outings as the Glasgow giants eagerly await their top-flight return this season, starting with the visit of Hamilton to Ibrox on August 6.
Rangers supporters have been starved of Premiership action for four years following the club’s financial meltdown in 2012, but Warburton – who was only appointed last summer – looks like bringing the good times back.
The supporters will make themselves heard tonight against Annan, and the 53-year-old says that they are simply “first class” fans.
“We’ve sold 42,000 season tickets so far and that is a magnificent number. It shows the backing we’ve received and the players thrive on that,” he told Rangers TV.
“The responsibility we have is to justify that faith. The fans have been first class. I saw the reception the players received on Saturday – we’re aware of that, and we have to justify that faith.”
