Rangers’ return to Old Firm derby football in the Scottish top-flight did not go exactly to plan today, as they received a thumping at Celtic Park.
Mark Warburton’s side lost 5-1 against their fierce rivals in a game in which they found themselves outplayed for large portions of the fixture.
A red card for debutant Philippe Senderos did not help their cause but in all honesty Rangers deserved to be beaten.
When it comes to finding positives from this Rangers display, pickings are slim.
However, speaking to Rangers TV after the game Warburton seemed impressed by the performances of both Josh Windass and Joe Garner:

“All credit to Josh.
“He came in, I don’t think Josh expected to play, but we wanted his energy. We miss that.
“I think Josh showed good pace and desire.
“He (Garner) learned how we play. You saw a couple of times when he came short and they put the ball in behind, he went long and they played it in short. That happens.
“That’s getting to know your colleagues and your team-mates.”
The summer signings from Accrington Stanley and Preston North End respectively both had good games but the Rangers boss was not about to suggest there were any real positives to take from this performance, stating:
“There were some positives but I am not going to turn around and say to our fans there were positives from today. We’ve come to our closest rivals and been beaten heavily. That shouldn’t happen.”
Before the game Celtic were the clear favourites but the way in which Rangers lost this game no doubt hurt the club’s fans and any hopes of a title challenge look extremely unlikely at present.
Rangers fans will certainly expect better when Celtic head to Ibrox in their next clash.
