Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers signed Joe Garner from Preston North End in the summer transfer window.

Mark Warburton has told the Glasgow Evening times that he intends to recall Joe Garner to his Glasgow Rangers’ side for their next two matches.

Garner controversially sat out of Rangers’ match against Celtic at Hampden Park last weekend.

Rangers lost 1-0, and they didn’t pose much of a threat to Celtic’s defence throughout the match.

However, Warburton insists that he made the right decision by leaving Garner on the substitutes’ bench and backing Kenny Miller to lead the line for Rangers.

“There was a reason he didn’t start on Sunday – the form of Kenny Miller,” Warburton said.

“If I sign someone for £1 or £20million, if I drop someone who has been playing really well what does that say to the squad?

“So we don’t drop him, we don’t rest him. The message is if you do well I’m going to pick you.

“Joe knows he has to earn his shirt. Whenever we sign a player we never guarantee them a start.

“Joe is ready and he will be heavily involved in the next couple of games.”

Garner joined Rangers from Preston North End during the summer transfer window, but things have not gone to plan for the striker at Ibrox so far.

Garner has scored just one goal in his first 10 Rangers matches, and he seems to be taking a while to settle in with the Glasgow side.

Garner has scored prolifically in England before, but he is yet to find his shooting boots since making the move to Ibrox.

Rangers’ next two matches come against St. Johnstone on Wednesday evening and Kilmarnock at the weekend.
