Mark Warburton claims his Rangers side can’t wait to face Morton on Sunday.

Rangers manager Mark Warburton has told the club’s official website that his side can’t wait for Sunday’s game against Morton following their 3-1 defeat to St. Johnstone.

After 11 straight wins to open the season under new manager Warburton, Rangers fans were excited by the prospect of facing a Premiership side in St. Johnstone at Ibrox – but their Scottish League Cup tie did not go to plan.

First half goals from Murray Davidson and Simon Lappin but St. Johnstone 2-0 up, before Michael O’Halloran made it 3-0 shortly after half-time.

James Tavernier did pull a goal back for Rangers, but it wasn’t enough to get his side back into the game, bringing Warburton his first defeat as manager since being appointed over the summer.

Having been in winning form for so long, it will now be interesting to see how Rangers bounce back from their first defeat of the season when they travel to face Morton on Sunday.

Speaking to the Rangers official website following the defeat to St. Johnstone, Warburton described the mood in the dressing room, stating that his players simply couldn’t wait for the next game as they seek to get back to winning ways immediately.

“They’re professionals,” said Warburton. “They’re hungry, they want the game, they want Sunday’s game now – that’s what they want. But we’ll be in recovery, then have a day off on Thursday, and we’ll be working hard and we’re looking forward to Sunday’s game,” he added.

Rangers have plenty of experience in their squad to help them bounce back, and whilst they came up short against a Scottish Premiership side, they will certainly expect to hit the winning trail again this weekend.
