Rangers striker Martyn Waghorn faces ‘a number of weeks’ out of action.
Rangers have today confirmed on their official website that striker Martyn Waghorn will be sidelined for ‘a number of weeks’, rather than months.
The Gers beat Kilmarnock 2-1 in the Scottish Cup on Tuesday night, but it came at a cost as star striker Waghorn picked up a major injury.
Waghorn was fouled inside the first five minutes at Rugby Park, and whilst he picked himself up to score from the penalty spot and give Rangers the lead, he was almost immediately substituted.
There was plenty of concern for Waghorn given that the foul took place on a plastic pitch, and now Rangers’ fears have been confirmed that Waghorn will miss playing time – but maybe not quite as much as first expected.
Rangers confirmed on their official website that Waghorn will miss ‘a number of weeks’, but won’t miss the rest of the season as some had feared.
The news still comes as a massive blow to manager Mark Warburton, who will no doubt call upon Kenny Miller and recent signing Michael O’Halloran to carry the burden up front.
After the news was announced, Rangers fans took to Twitter to share their concerns over Waghorn’s injury, and called upon Miller and O’Halloran – as well as other attacking players – to step up and fill the void left by Waghorn’s absence, whether that’s out wide or leading the line.
