Lee Wallace was named Rangers’ captain during Mark Warburton’s time in charge of the Scottish Premiership club.

Mark Warburton has given his backing to Rangers veteran Lee Wallace with the defender frozen out at Ibrox under Steven Gerrard, speaking to Open Goal.
The 31-year-old has been a fine servant for Rangers over the last eight years, having arrived from Hearts of Midlothian all the way back in 2011.
The long-serving left-back was also a key player during Warburton’s year and a half at Ibrox. It was the former Brentford boss who handed Wallace the captain’s armband at the start of the 2015/16 season after the departure of Lee McCulloch after all.
But Wallace’s Rangers career has fallen apart since Warburton’s exit, having been suspended by the club following an apparent row with interim coach Graeme Murty following a Scottish Cup semi-final thrashing against Celtic a year ago.
He also lost his armband to James Tavernier when Gerrard took over and has featured just twice under the former Liverpool skipper.

“Huge credit to the likes of Kenny Miller and Lee Wallace.Top, top professionals,” said the former Nottingham Forest boss.
“I can’t speak highly enough of those two guys. Those guys had a really important mentoring role.”
Wallace’s Rangers contract expires in the summer and it seems that he is on borrowed time at Ibrox.
