Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers are second in the Scottish Premiership.
Speaking to a press conference, as quoted by The Record, Rangers boss Mark Warburton has responded to chairman Dave King’s recent comments.
This week, the Rangers chief admitted that he did expect Warburton’s side – who sit eight points behind Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic, who have two games in hand – to be far more competitive with their Old Firm rivals than they have been.
It is the Gers’ first season back in the top-flight following the financial collapse which saw them demoted to the fourth tier of Scottish football in 2012.
But it is proving anything but the fairytale return that Rangers fans would have been hoping for, with two one-sided defeats against their bitter Glasgow rivals being the major disappointments for them so far.
But they did beat Partick 2-1 on Saturday for their second successive Premiership win, and Warburton was keen to point out that his boys “are not doing too badly” despite perceived criticism from the chairman.
He told reporters after the Partick win, quoted by The Record: “We’re in second tonight, aren’t we?
“The chairman was good, very good to us, we had a good conversation. His comments were very supportive.
“He’ll support us in the windows as he has done, his communication is very good. And we sit second so we’re not doing too badly.”
There is a huge gulf between Rangers and Celtic at the moment, and it is clear that the 55-year-old manager will need significant investment in January, and next summer, if Warburton is to bridge that gap any time soon.
The Gers face another big test next weekend when third-placed Aberdeen travel to Ibrox.
