Mark Warburton backs Celtic to win title, not Rangers

Former Ibrox manager Mark Warburton has predicted on Sky Sports that Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic will win the Scottish Premiership title this season, not Steven Gerrard’s Rangers.

Rangers are second in the Scottish Premiership table at the moment with 30 points from 15 matches.

Gerrard’s Ibrox club are level on points with bitter Old Firm rivals Celtic, who have played 14 matches.

Kilmarnock are currently at the top of the league table with 31 points from 16 matches.

Former Rangers manager Warburton, who was in charge of the Ibrox club from the summer of 2015 until February 2017, has backed Celtic to win the league title and the Gers to finish second.

Warburton told Sky Sports: “I think it’s Celtic for me, I think Rangers will come second, I think between Kilmarnock and Aberdeen for third place.”

Title challenge

Celtic did not start the season strongly, and that is why the Hoops are not far ahead of the rest of the teams in the Scottish Premiership.

There is now, though, a real race for the league title now, and Rangers will certainly consider themselves good enough to give Celtic a run for their money.

Celtic will face Kilmarnock at Celtic Park in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday afternoon, while Rangers will take on Dundee away from home in the league on Sunday afternoon.
