Rangers boss Mark Warburton has told Talksport he is pleased with the balance of young and old in his newly-assembled squad.
Warburton added 11 new faces to his senior ranks ahead of the Light Blues’ return to Scottish football’s highest level this season, with the controversial former Newcastle United and England midfielder Joey Barton arguably the most notable.
However, with the Premiership’s first Old Firm clash in four years up next, the 53-year-old assured it is not only Barton whose influence has been felt.
When asked about the Liverpudlian’s impact on Wednesday’s Jim White show, Warburton replied: “His influence has been very strong. But don’t underestimate the significance of people like Niko Kranjcar, Clint Hill, Matt Gilks, these guys – along with Kenny Miller and Lee Wallace – bring significant experience to the club.
“We’ve got those players but we’re delighted with the young ones as well. The role of Jordan Rossiter so far, Joe Dodoo, Josh (Windass) and Matt Crooks coming (back) as well. We’ve got a nice balance.
“Yes they learn from the senior players, the experienced players, but don’t underestimate the enthusiasm of the young ones, who will be keen and relishing this type of fixture.”
Celtic, who have the home advantage in Saturday’s lunch time kick-off, have been made slight favourites after winning all three of their league fixtures so far.
However, Rangers, despite having drawn two of their four, are yet to taste defeat since returning to the top flight.
And Warburton’s side emerged victorious in the two teams’ last encounter in April, winning the Scottish Cup semi-final via a penalty shoot-out at Hampden Park.
The Bhoys are looking to win their sixth straight league title, which would only be the second achieved in Rangers’ presence.
