Barrie McKay’s contract at Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers expires in 18 months.

Glasgow Rangers boss Mark Warburton has admitted to the Glasgow Evening Times that his side could be forced to sell this month.

The form of Barrie McKay has seen the winger linked with a move away from Ibrox.

And although Warburton insists that he will do everything within his power to keep hold of one of Rangers’ most valuable prospects, he cannot guarantee that the 21-year-old will stay.

“If clubs come in, unsettle the players and it’s good business for our club, then we will do it,” the Rangers boss said.

“We have to have replacements lined up and move accordingly. So no player is safe from that.

“Barrie is a very talented player and he is a Rangers player. I’m delighted with his progress over the last 18 months.

“He is technically gifted, physically strong, quick. He sees a pass. He has got such a bright future for the Scottish national team.

“I’m sure there is dialogue going on at various levels. From our point of view we value Barrie very highly. He is a top young talent and I hope very much he has a bright future here at Rangers.”

McKay has just 18 months left on his contract at Rangers, which has led to speculation that he could move on.

McKay still plays a key role for Rangers, and he has become a key part of Warburton’s starting line-up.

The 22-year-old has scored three goals in 27 appearances for Rangers so far this term.

McKay could be in line to start for Rangers in their next match, which comes in the Scottish Cup against Motherwell tomorrow.
