Leeds United have been linked with Bournemouth’s Mark Travers.

Bournemouth goalkeeper Mark Travers has told the Daily Echo that he wants to play for the Cherries next season amid links to Leeds United.

Travers, 20, joined Bournemouth from Shamrock Rovers in 2016, having emerged as a promising young goalkeeper over in Ireland.

In the 2017-18 season, Travers spent time on loan with non-league side Weymouth for first-team football, and remarkably scored on his debut for the club.

Come the end of this past season, Travers had made his Premier League debut, turning in a superb display in the 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur, making a host of saves in the process.

With Asmir Begovic struggling last season and Artur Boruc far from a long-term solution, there’s a chance that Travers can push on and stake a claim to start for Eddie Howe, even though Bournemouth are expecting to sign a new goalkeeper.

Travers’ situation could go either way, as The Sun reported on Friday that Leeds United are keen to take him on loan, despite having their own young goalkeeper in Bailey Peacock-Farrell.

Now, speaking before those rumours emerged, Travers suggested that his priority is to play for Bournemouth rather than go anywhere else, and hopes to use pre-season to impress Howe – which may mean that Leeds need to look elsewhere for a new shot-stopper.

“I want to play for this club and hopefully I can do that,” said Travers. “But at the end of the day it’s down to the manager and backroom staff with who they want to play. I just want to try to have good pre-season and get in the manager’s thoughts,” he added.
