Former Chelsea and Leicester City goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer said on The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Friday morning (broadcast from 6am, October 21, 2016) that Andy Carroll has been a massive miss for West Ham United.

Carroll is on the sidelines at the moment with a knee injury and is weeks away from recovering full fitness, as reported by BBC Sport.

The England international striker is a good player and allows the Hammers to play in a different way up front.

Former Australia international goalkeeper Schwarzer, who won the Premier League title with Leicester last season, believes that the 27-year-old has been a massive miss for West Ham.

“I think Andy Carroll is the one that has been the massive miss or massive loss to West Ham,” said Schwarzer on The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Friday morning (broadcast from 6am, October 21, 2016).

“He has got that presence about him. He wears his heart on his sleeve, he is a fighter.”

Carroll is a good striker and is of Premier League quality, but the main problem with him has been his fitness.

The former Newcastle United and Liverpool striker scored nine goals in 27 Premier League appearances last season.

During the 2014-15 campaign, the Englishman scored five goals in 14 league matches.

West Ham are 15th in the Premier League table at the moment with just seven points from eight matches.
