Should Newcastle United have made a move for Marko Arnautovic before he joined West Ham United from Stoke City in the summer transfer window?

Former Chelsea and Leicester City goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer said on The Debate – Live show on Sky Sports Premier League on Thursday evening (broadcast from 10pm, August 17, 2017) that West Ham United summer signing Marko Arnautovic is like Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Moussa Sissoko.

Arnautovic joined West Ham from Premier League rivals Stoke City in the summer transfer window.

According to BBC Sport, the Hammers had to pay the Potters an initial transfer fee of £20 million which could rise to £25m in order to secure the services of the 28-year-old winger.

As reported by BBC Sport, Spurs had to pay Newcastle United a transfer fee of £30m in order to secure the services of the 28-year-old France international midfielder lastsummer.

Ex-Arsenal attacker Paul Merson said on The Debate – Live show on Sky Sports Premier League on Thursday evening (broadcast from 10pm, August 17, 2017): “You look at Arnautovic, £22m, £23m. Why are Newcastle not going for him?”

Schwarzer said: “You go back to the mould of Sissoko that they had at Newcastle. He is a kind of player that one week is excellent, and then you don’t see him for two or three weeks.”
