Celtic’s Ryan Christie looks like being a hit at Aberdeen.
Mark Reynolds has told The Scottish Sun that Celtic must have serious talent in their ranks if a player like Ryan Christie is allowed to leave.
Christie re-joined Aberdeen on loan this summer, having scored six Premiership goals in seven starts during a six-month stint at Pittodrie last season.
Still, the 22-year-old was deemed surplus to requirements at Celtic this season by manager Brendan Rodgers, who has brought in Kundai Benyu and Jonny Hayes.
And the Aberdeen defender says it is indicative of how good the Bhoys are that Rodgers can afford to let go of a player like Christie, whom Reynolds is claims is perhaps the finest player that he has ever played with.
“I can’t put into words how highly I rate Ryan. It’s hard to understand how good the Celtic players must be if he gets sent out on loan. Ryan is certainly one of the best players I’ve ever worked with,” he told The Scottish Sun.
“He’s unbelievable technically, he sees passes, and you can give him the ball in tight situations and he will get out of them. The things he does at training are even better than what he does during games, he’s ridiculous at times.
“We shouldn’t like him because he’s such an amazing player, but he’s also a great guy so you can’t resent him! Ryan will kick on and play at a higher level. He’s a great footballer, and it was a massive boost for us to get him back here for another season.”
Reynolds is right. Celtic boast an embarrassment of riches when it comes to quality players and Rodgers’s decision to let Christie leave typifies just how good the Hoops’ squad is.
Having said that, Benyu and Hayes have not proven themselves successful under Rodgers yet, so the Northern Irishman might, possibly, come to regret his decision to let Christie leave on loan.
