West Ham United ran out as comfortable winners against Newcastle United yesterday.
West Ham skipper Mark Noble spoke to reporters in the aftermath of his side’s impressive 2-0 win over Newcastle United at the London Stadium yesterday, and admitted that he was a little bit shocked when his side went in two up at half-time, as quoted by the club’s official website.
The Hammers were excellent against the Toon yesterday, and their win took them up to ninth spot in the table, just four points adrift of seventh placed Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Newcastle have been on a decent run themselves in recent weeks, and it came as somewhat of a surprise that West Ham ended up winning the game so comfortably.
Noble addressed the media after yesterday’s victory over the Magpies, and admitted that he was surprised to go in at half-time with his side leading by two goals, considering Rafa Benitez’s side’s reputation for being hard to break down, as quoted by the club’s official website:
“We knew that Newcastle are a tough team to play against. They very rarely concede goals and they are so well drilled. We knew it was going to be like that and, to be honest, I was a little bit shocked we went in 2-0 up because of their history of not conceding goals.”
Next up for West Ham is a trip to Cardiff City, before they play host to Huddersfield Town heading into the two-week international break, and a return of six points from those outings will put them in a great position from which to qualify for the Europa League next season.
