Toni Martinez enhanced his burgeoning reputation with a hat-trick for West Ham United’s Under-23 side on Sunday.
The 20-year-old hitman grabbed three goals in a 4-2 win over Manchester United’s U23s to make it 21 goals in 22 games at that level.
In doing so, he became the first West Ham player to score a hat-trick at the London Stadium.
The Spaniard is yet to make a Premier League debut but he is certainly going the right way about it by producing some truly class form for the development side.
And it’s safe to say that his heroics aren’t going unnoticed in the senior side as midfielder Mark Noble sent his congratulations to the young man on Twitter.
The red-hot youngster started a 3-2 League Cup win over Swindon Town back in August but has not had a sniff in the first team since then.
However, it appears like it’s only a matter of time before manager Slaven Bilic gives him another chance to impress.
The Irons have a last-16 Carabao Cup clash with Tottenham later this month, but given that it’s a London derby, Bilic will be under pressure to name a strong squad and therefore might overlook Martinez for that one, which is probably fair enough.
