Rice started the match, but the 19-year-old – who can operate as a central defender or as a defensive midfielder – did not have a good game and was substituted at the half-time interval.
The performance of the Republic of Ireland international was not great, but his West Ham teammate Noble has stated that the fans have nothing to worry about as he will recover.
The 31-year-old central midfielder has also admitted his shock at how calm Rice was ahead of the match, which ended in a 4-0 defeat for West Ham.
Noble wrote in The London Evening Standard: “Young players can be seriously affected by events and there are some West Ham fans who might be concerned about Declan Rice, who was substituted at half-time against Liverpool.
“What I’ve found about Declan though is that, he may be just 19 but he has a really mature head on his shoulders.”
While discussing his conversation with Rice after having a meal in the hotel in Liverpool ahead of the match, Noble added: “I asked him: ‘How are you feeling mate? Are you nervous?’ He replied: ‘Not really, it’s only a game of football after all.’
“In a way he’s right of course and I just thought to myself: ‘Blimey, I wish I’d had that sort of outlook and attitude when I was 19!’”
Bouncing back
West Ham were always going to lose to Liverpool, although fans will have been disappointed at how easily they were dismantled by Jurgen Klopp’s side.
The Hammers will take on Bournemouth at the London Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
