West Ham United moved up to 15th in the table with a win over Crystal Palace on Saturday.
West Ham United captain Mark Noble has pointed out to the Mirror that their start to the season does not look so bad when you consider they are just a point behind champions Leicester City.
The Hammers beat Crystal Palace 1-0 on Saturday afternoon, courtesy of a strike from Manuel Lanzini, to secure just their second win of the season.
It saw them move up to 15th place in the table and out of the relegation zone for the first time in several weeks.
It is far from where they expected to be this season after they impressed in Slaven Bilic’s first season last year.
They have come in for stern criticism as a result but Noble points out things do not look so bad when looking at who is just ahead of them in the table.
He told the Mirror: “That win was a little boost for us. Just to show we do care. We really, really care. The way we’ve trained, the way we are as players, it’s really important to us.
“When you look at it, by all accounts we’ve had a terrible start, our worst in how many years. But we’re only a point now behind Leicester, who won the league last season. Start winning a couple of games and it doesn’t look so bad after all.”
Noble and his teammates will now be keen to make it back-to-back wins when they take on bottom of the table Sunderland this weekend.
The win over Palace was a big one for them but they are still just one point outside of the relegation zone and need to put a run together to pull away from that bottom three.
Sunderland are the perfect opponents to face in that regard, with Moyes’ team currently winless in their first eight games.
