West Ham United captain Mark Noble has hit back at Manchester City’ Fabian Delph and other detractors over recent comments.
West Ham look to be on an upward curve after an encouraging performance in a 2-1 defeat to champions-elect Manchester City was followed by a brilliant 1-0 win over Chelsea.
Both performances were built on solid team shape and hard work, something West Ham have been sorely lacking over the last 18 months.
But detractors, including Man City’s Fabian Delph, have also accused the Hammers of negative football.
Speaking after the game against West Ham last week, Delph said: “It was difficult, teams seem to come here and get every man behind the ball, not interested in anything but parking the bus,” as reported by the likes of The Express.
“What annoys me is you get people saying that you showed no ambition,” Noble told the Evening Standard.
“Okay, we open up and play expansive football against Chelsea and you get beaten 5-0.
“We can’t spend £80million on a player so somehow you have to find a way of beating these big teams.
“We have to level it up somehow and that is by hard work and having a game plan which we executed brilliantly.”
Noble makes a good point, people need to remember not everyone can be like Man City and go out and spend unlimited funds and wages on recruiting the best players in world football.
