West Ham United midfielder Mark Noble has defended the recent form of his team and stressed some positives.
West Ham United midfielder Mark Noble has defended the side’s recent form on the club’s website.
The Hammers haven’t won a game since the end of January but the midfielder feels the side isn’t playing as poorly as the results would suggest.
“In the last month or so, we’ve been seconds away from six points and ended up with only a couple, and it would be a whole different season if we’d beaten Spurs away and Manchester United at home,” he said.
“That would be another four points on the board and we’d still be looking at a firm spot in Europe. Now, we’ve got games against teams below us and we need to win them.”
West Ham remain in a good position for an assault on the top eight in the Premier League, but Noble’s comments don’t excuse the mistakes which have been made over the couple of months he talks about.
Manager Sam Allardyce would have been furious about the late equaliser conceded against Tottenham and there is a real need for leadership and experience in the side at the moment to help see out tight and tense games.
The comments suggest that there should be a deep determination in the side at the moment to ensure that things change.
The players should be showing that little extra motivation and going into games with a spring in their step to put the record straight and to produce what Noble feels is a more accurate reflection of the way the team has been playing.
They can start in the match against Sunderland this weekend, who will be going into the contest with a new manager.
