Glasgow Rangers are currently looking for their next manager having parted company with Mark Warburton last week.
Motherwell manager Mark McGhee
Motherwell boss Mark McGhee has suggested that he would like either Derek McInnes or Tommy Wright to be rewarded for the work they have done with their respective clubs by being given the Rangers job, The Scottish Sun reports.
The Gers have been linked with both McInnes and Wright since they parted company with Mark Warburton last week, The Scottish Sun reports, and it is not difficult to see why when you look at what the pair have achieved with Aberdeen and St Johnstone respectively.
The Dons are currently second in the Scottish Premiership once again, while Wright’s men look to be on course to finish in the top half for their sixth season in a row, the last three have been achieved under their current manager.
And McGhee has suggested that he would like to see one of his two top flight rivals handed the chance to take over at Ibrox.
Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes
“As someone who has been at Aberdeen and knowing how difficult it is to manage it, I think McInnes has done a brilliant job,” he said, as reported by The Scottish Sun.
“I see Tommy Wright linked with Rangers and equally, with the resources he has, he has done a brilliant job.
“I would love to see one of those guys get the opportunity.”
St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright
While the likes of Frank de Boer and Alex McLeish may perhaps be popular candidates amongst fans – given their connections with the club coupled with their managerial pedigree – McInnes, who of course did play for Rangers during his playing days, and Wright would perhaps be wiser appointments at the moment given that they have been working in Scotland’s top flight much more recently, and have been enjoying some success.
The pair would also have surely been analysing the Gers on a fairly regular basis this season, so perhaps they would already have their ideas about what may be needed to be done to help restore the club to their former glory.
