Roberto Firmino is playing well for Liverpool at the moment.
The former Liverpool defender has suggested that winger Mohamed Salah grabbing all the headlines has taken the focus off of Firmino, who can operate as a forward or as a winger.
Lawrenson wrote on BBC Sport: “Everyone is raving about Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane’s form but Roberto Firmino has been outstanding too.
“Firmino has kicked on since Philippe Coutinho left for Barcelona in January, but Salah in particular has grabbed all the headlines. I think Firmino deserves more credit.”
Deserves more credit
There is no doubt that Salah has been the best player for Liverpool so far this season.
In fact, some would argue that the Egypt international has been the best player in the Premier League so far this campaign.
However, no one can deny the importance of Firmino to the current Liverpool team who are aiming to finish in the top four of the Premier League this season.
The Brazil international attacker has scored 13 goals and provided six assists in 24 Premier League starts for Liverpool so far this season.
In seven Champions League appearances for the Reds so far this campaign, Firmino has scored seven goals and provided three assists.
Firmino joined Liverpool from Hoffenheim in the summer of 2015 for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £29 million.
