Tottenham Hotspur play host to West Ham United tomorrow lunchtime.
BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson urged Tottenham to play a strong side against West Ham tomorrow, when writing his regular column for BBC Sport, in spite of their upcoming Champions League clash with Ajax on Tuesday.
Spurs haven’t yet guaranteed their place inside the top four, but a win against the Hammers tomorrow would go a long way towards securing Champions League football for a fourth consecutive season.
Mauricio Pochettino will surely have one eye on Tottenham’s clash with Ajax on Tuesday night, however, and might just be tempted to use some of his fringe players for the London derby against West Ham.
Lawrenson insisted that Spurs must go all out to beat the Hammers tomorrow, however, when writing his regular column for BBC Sport:
“There is still work for them to do, though. Like Liverpool, Mauricio Pochettino’s side also have a Champions League semi-final to think about – against Ajax on Tuesday – but they have to pick a strong line-up here. West Ham carry a threat but they are very inconsistent, and I think Spurs will get the three points they need.”
Tottenham currently sit in third spot in the Premier League table, four points clear of fifth placed Arsenal, so a win against West Ham would put them in a great position whereby they might be able to rest players for the league game in between their semi-final clashes with Ajax.
The Hammers will be well up for the game, however, so whichever side Pochettino picks will have to be on their very best form if they are to earn all three points.
