Pundit Mark Lawrenson has told BBC Sport that he thinks Liverpool will beat Manchester United 2-0 in the Premier League this evening.

The final fixture of Gameweek eight takes place this evening, as Manchester United make the short trip to Liverpool for the latest instalment of this famed rivalry.

Liverpool head into the game having put themselves in the conversation of title contenders, with four wins in a row and just five points dropped in seven games.

Jurgen Klopp’s men are playing an attractive, exciting brand of football, and will call upon the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane to hurt the United defence this evening – though injury doubts Georginio Wijnaldum and Adam Lallana would be big misses.

Meanwhile, United started the season in style with three straight wins, but have now won just one of their last four Premier League games as Jose Mourinho’s men suffer some teething problems.

Just three points separate the two teams ahead of this evening’s game, and it promises to be a barnstorming encounter at Anfield between two of English football’s great rivals.

Ahead of the game, former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson has offered his score prediction to BBC Sport – and he’s unsurprisingly backing the Reds to claim all three points in a 2-0 win.

Lawrenson pointed to Liverpool’s impressive home displays so far this season, and thinks United could struggle to deal with Klopp’s ‘gegenpressing’ tactics.

“Liverpool have made a very good start to the season, and their home form is particularly impressive,” said Lawrenson. “They have only played Leicester and Hull at Anfield so far, but they have scored a total of nine goals and really swept both teams away.

“It will be interesting to see how Manchester United cope with the Reds’ gegenpressing because I think Liverpool have been the best team in the league without the ball this season – they are as good when they don’t have possession as they are when they do.”

“I think United will struggle to deal with that. Quite often with these big games I go for a draw but on this occasion I fancy Liverpool. I just think at the moment, with the way they are playing, with their pace and the speed of their passing, the Reds will have the edge,” he added.
