Pundit Mark Lawrenson has told BBC Sport that he thinks Tottenham Hotspur will beat Sunderland 2-0 on Sunday evening.

Spurs head into the game having made an unbeaten start to the new Premier League season, with two wins and two draws for Mauricio Pochettino’s men so far.

Last weekend’s 4-0 win over Stoke was by far Tottenham’s best display of the season, but Wednesday’s 2-1 defeat to Monaco in the Champions League at Wembley means Tottenham must now respond against a struggling Sunderland side.

David Moyes’ men were hammered 3-0 by Everton on Monday evening as Romelu Lukaku struck a second half hat-trick, leaving Sunderland without a win so far this season.

After three defeats in the first four games, Sunderland have just one point to their name, and a trip to White Hart Lane doesn’t look too appealing given their recent record away at Tottenham.

Sunderland have leaked 11 goals in their last three trips to White Hart Lane, and haven’t beaten Spurs away from home in the Premier League since 2008.

Ahead of Sunday’s game, pundit Mark Lawrenson has told BBC Sport that he felt Sunderland were poor defensively against Everton once the Toffees hit their stride, and claims this match is a ‘home banker’ for Spurs.

Lawrenson predicts a 2-0 win for Spurs, suggesting that Wednesday’s defeat to Monaco won’t have an impact on Pochettino’s men as they return to White Hart Lane.

“Sunderland were poor defensively in their 3-0 home defeat by Everton on Monday night,” said Lawrenson. “When the Toffees raised their level in the second half, it was all over. This looks like another big test for the Black Cats. I would go so far as to say that it looks to be a home banker for Tottenham.”

“Spurs lost to Monaco at Wembley in the Champions League on Wednesday but I don’t see them having any problems on their return to White Hart Lane,” he added.
