Pochettino watched his Tottenham side lose to Crystal Palace on Sunday in the FA Cup.

BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson looks on as prepares for the start of the npower Championship match between Queens Park Rangers and Leeds United at Loftus Road on May 7, 2011 in London, England.

Mark Lawrenson has told BBC Match of the Day’s official Twitter account that Tottenham Hotspur’s defeat to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup is just more proof that Mauricio Pochettino should leave to join Manchester United.

Pochettino decided to make seven changes to the side that were knocked out of the Carabao Cup earlier in the week by Chelsea, but that failed to prevent Palace from winning 2-0 thanks to goals from Connor Wickham and Andros Townsend.

But after starting the week still in all four competitions, Spurs have now been reduced to just the two in the Champions League and Premier League. It leaves the Argentine with little chance of ending Spurs’ trophy drought.

Lawrenson reckons Daniel Levy’s transfer restraints mean Pochettino simply cannot do much more than he is doing, and reckons the loss in the FA Cup at Selhurst Park is further proof that a move to Manchester United could happen.

“I honestly think that Pochettino’s stock goes up and up,” Lawrenson said. “Because, what can he do? They can’t seem to sign any players. To be fair, he takes it on the chin. He’s in a really, really awkward position.

“But honestly, from what you see is going on at the moment with Tottenham, it just reiterates that he will just go to Manchester United because he’s got an absolute, total excuse.”

The former Espanyol and Southampton manager has consistently rejected claims that he is looking to leave Spurs, while interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has won eight consecutive matches since taking over – including a win over Spurs.

The Guardian claim that Pochettino is earning a whopping £163,000 a week after signing a contract in the summer of 2018 that will see him remain at Spurs until 2023. Only Harry Kane earns more from the playing staff (Spotrac).
